Cloud-based multi-DRM technology combines with video watermarking to control piracy

Digital rights management (DRM) along with forensic watermarking helps content creators, OTT platforms, and studios reduce video piracy throughout the life cycle of their content.

The multi-DRM license service can be built on the cloud, such as the Amazon Web Services (AWS), CloudFront, and other platforms to provide content key management and license issuance for all device types and browsers. Cloud-based content delivery networks (CDNs) forms the foundation of cloud-based workflows and offers capabilities needed to create, package, transport, store, deliver, and monetize video content. The cloud infrastructure helps content to be scaled to any operational requirement, enabling low latency streaming delivery globally.

The multi-DRM cloud can be integrated with AWS Elemental Media Services via Secure Packager and Encoder Key Exchange (SPEKE) API specification and similar specifications from other cloud providers. SPEKE is essentially a royalty-free open source API specification that defines the standard for encryption communication between video encoders, DRM system key servers, transcoders, and origin servers for live and on-demand DRM protected content. The video processing and packaging services offered by AWS include AWS Elemental MediaPackage, a video delivery service that allows video providers to securely and reliably distribute streaming video at scale, as well as AWS Elemental MediaConvert, a file-based video transcoding service with broadcast-grade features that allows video service providers to easily create video-on-demand (VOD) content for broadcast and multiscreen delivery at scale. The AWS Auto Scaling feature can also be used to monitor video services and automatically adjust capacity to maintain a steady, predictable performance at low costs.

API integration with AWS Media Services also ensures a secure workflow for customers to reliably create and protect streaming video over the internet to a wide range of devices. While OTT and VOD operators do not have to invest in permanently overprovisioned systems, the customers can launch new services faster, with fewer risks and reduced expenses.

Similarly, the collaboration of video watermarking and cloud computing can significantly result in making the system robust as well as secure user’s data. SaaS providers offer cloud based forensic watermarking which takes care of all steps from embedding to detection. The content can be pre-processed and packaged without having to build a separate server with the CLI preprocessor or library. Watermark embedding can also be done via the integrated CDN edge server (supported by Amazon CloudFront CDN) which can convert watermark playback URLs in real time through an API call.
